Retro Blog: 1 Friday, 12 March 2010

It’s thirteen days before Retro starts on CTV and I’ve just made my poor editor go back and re-edit episode one. Seamus, who I like to call ‘The Dark Horse’, did a fantastic job editing the first show but I keep making changes to it. Yesterday I had signed off on the first episode. I was completely happy with it. I was so happy that last night I even showed my best friend and his wife. Sitting there in their living room watching it flicking on their television I realised at least five things that weren’t working or needed tweaking.

I won’t be surprised if I get Seamus to do even more edits next week.

He also created the opening titles to Retro, which are in my humble opinion the best/maddest opening titles on New Zealand Television at the moment. We hope you like them.

Doing a classic hits music programme has been a harder than I thought it would be. I’m still learning how to create that perfect balance of songs per show. The first song of the first episode was the hardest choice. That first song defines the show for the next twelve weeks. When I decided that first song (I’m not going to tell you what is, you’ll have to watch on the 25th March!) I imagined my self as a DJ at a wedding. The speeches have just finished and it was time for dancing. You need a song that transcends ages, tastes and dancing ability. We hope you like it.

What was an easy choice was the decision to put bloopers at the end of each episode. Someone ‘leaked’ the first four shows worth of bloopers. We hope you like them.

See you in thirteen days.

Host / Producer of Retro
Starts 8pm Thursday 25th March
